TRANSLATION: Upper by Gao Shu: Gao expresses his concern over the ongoing instability in China, especially in Sichuan where Gas was born, during the Republic period. Known for his mastery of calligraphy during the late Qing/Republic period, his calligraphy works were quite sort after and he also complains here that those looking for his small regular scripts should put his age (in his 70s) into consideration. Lower by Fang Huan: Walking along the winding path, Walking through the warm ponds. Emerald grass long and soft, An oriole hides in the blossoms. My attendant sings a local folk song, While I walk towards the highland facing the sun. Moon light shines and giggles fly with breeze. I bend down and stare at the glowing pond. Children looking for ripe lotus seeds, Elders paddling in the wilderness. I wander around and cherish the passing time, While the end of the year approaches.
